Russia-Ukraine overnight strikes kill 5, injure 15

Five people were killed and 15 injured in Russia-Ukraine overnight strikes, officials from both sides reported Tuesday.

In Ukraine, Dnipropetrovsk Regional Gov. Oleksandr Hanzha said Russian forces targeted four districts of Dnipro, killing four people and injuring six others, as well as damaging warehouse facilities and an enterprise. Enterprises were also damaged in Kryvyi Rih and Pavlohrad, he said on Telegram.

In Kyiv, five people were injured, according to the National Police. Warehouses caught fire following the attack, while the facade and ground floor of a five-story residential building in the Dniprovskyi district were damaged, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram. Residents were evacuated.

Ukraine’s Air Force said its air defenses had shot down 186 Russian aerial targets, including one Kalibr cruise missile, eight Banderol/Dan-T targets, and 177 drones. Authorities said the attacks primarily targeted the Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad, and Poltava regions.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry said its forces carried out a “massive strike” against Ukrainian industrial, energy, military-industrial and port infrastructure in Kyiv and the Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, and Odesa regions. It also said strikes hit vessels allegedly used in support of Ukrainian forces.

Attacks on Russia

In Russia’s Samara region, one person was killed and four others injured following a Ukrainian drone attack, regional Gov. Vyacheslav Fedorishchev said on Telegram.

He said dozens of drones were shot down over the region and that they targeted industrial facilities, without specifying the sites.

Ukraine’s General Staff claimed its forces struck the Kuibyshev refinery in Russia’s Samara region and the Bashneft-UNPZ oil refinery in Ufa, sparking fires at the facilities.

The output of both refineries is used to support the needs of the Russian military, it said.

“Striking such facilities constitutes an exercise of Ukraine’s inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter and aims to diminish the Russian Federation’s military-economic potential,” the General Staff said on Telegram.

However, Fedorishchev did not mention attacks on the Kuibyshev refinery.

“Unfortunately, there is damage to civilian infrastructure, including private homes and vehicles. The operational headquarters is currently gathering full information on the aftermath,” Fedorishchev said.

Russia’s Defense Ministry separately said its air defenses intercepted and destroyed 297 Ukrainian drones overnight over Russian territory and annexed Crimea.

Independent verification of the claims remains difficult due to the ongoing war.
