BERLIN
The U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) has spied on former Chinese President Hu Jintao as well as China's ministries, banks, telecommunications and technology firms since 2006, German weekly Der Spiegel has reported.
Documents provided by former NSA worker Edward Snowden have revealed a major intelligence offensive against China, Der Spiegel claimed.
The NSA is also said to have made a special effort to target Huawei, the world's second largest network equipment supplier, the German weekly reported saying that an NSA document shows the U.S. secret service tried to justify its surveillance of Huawei by stressing that many of NSA’s targets worldwide “communicate over Huawei produced products” and it wanted to make sure that they knew “how to exploit these products."
