Turkey: 4G license tender to be held on May 26
Analysts noted that the significant data traffic growth in Turkey has made the evolution from 3G to 4G a necessity
ANKARA
Turkey's Information and Communications Technologies Authority of Turkey will hold a tender for 4G Licenses on May 26, the authority said in a statement on Friday.
At the tender, a total of 20 broadband segments will be offered for use at the 800, 900, 1800, 2100 and 2100 MHz frequencies. The total broadband will be 390,4 MHz and its total minimum cost has been determined at about €2,3 billion.
Proposals for the tender will be taken between May 20 and the last day May 26, till 09.30 a.m.
4G is the fourth generation of mobile phone technology and follows on from 2G and 3G, according to a definition by U.K. telecoms regulator Ofcom. The 2G technology was suitable for making calls and sending text messages, while 3G makes it possible to access the internet more effectively through your mobile phone.
This means a music album taking 20 minutes to download on a 3G phone and just over three minutes on 4G. This is based on existing 3G speeds being one megabit on average and 4G speed being six megabits.
