An Extraordinary World Congress of basketball's governing body convened in Istanbul on Sunday and has adopted new rules that will change the body's governance structure.
A record number of members attended the International Basketball Federation (FIBA)'s congress at Ciragan Palace Kempinski, with 198 out of the 214 national federations that constitute FIBA being represented.
The Congress voted in favor of several changes, such as FIBA's new competition calendar, the number of Central Board members and establishing an executive committee.
Increasing its Central Board membership from 23 to 29 members, the Congress also formed an executive committee to increase the flexibility and efficiency in the decision-making process.
The previous FIBA congress was held in Germany in 1989 and the election process for the next Ordinary Congress will be held at the end of August of this year in Spain.
