U.S. boxer Floyd Mayweather was stripped of his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title on Tuesday.
Mayweather, 38, was forced to relinquish the title he won from Manny Pacquiao in May after failing to pay organizers a $200,000 administration fee by the July 3 deadline.
"The WBO World Championship Committee is allowed no other alternative but to cease to recognize Mr Floyd Mayweather Jr. as the WBO welterweight champion of the world and vacate his title," the organization said a statement. Mayweather has until July 20 to appeal.
U.S. fighter Timothy Bradley now becomes the WBO title-holder.
Mayweather still holds the WBA and WBC titles and is expected to fight on September 12 as he chases Rocky Marciano’s record of 49 victorious bouts.
