MELBOURNE
The winner of the season's first Grand Slam, Swiss tennis player Stanislas Wawrinka says he says that now it is his turn.
Having won his first Grand Slam trophy, Switzerland's Wawrinka posed for the cameras next to the Yarra river, and said he was on cloud nine after the triumph in Australia.
He reacted to a remark made by a press member about passing his fellow citizen Roger Federer in the list and becoming Switzerland's number one after the victory in Melbourne, by saying "I can never pass Roger Federer in rankings, I always regard Federer as the number one, my friend Roger broke me in and now he's happy for me" said Wawrinka.
"I deserved the title"
Wawrinka after praising his opponent Nadal said that he was a great player, and commented that he was in need of a time to digest what he achieved in the last two weeks. He said that he deserved the title even if Nadal was injured because he defeated the world's number two Serbian Novak Djokovic.
