MERSIN
Turkish weightlifters Emine Sensoy and Aysegul Coban dominated the women's 53 kg weightlifting competition at Mersin Mediterranean Games, winning two gold and two silver medals with their dazzling performance in both snatch and clean & jerk events.
Sensoy won the snatch with 82 kg, followed by Coban, who also lifted 82 but did it on her last attempt. French Manon Lorentz, considered the favorite, settled for the bronze with 79.
In clean & jerk, Coban was the superior athlete, breaking a Games record with her 110 kg lift. Sensoy trailed with 96, and Lorrentz came third with 95.
The previous record in clean & jerk belonged to another Turkish weightlifter, Nurcan Taylan.
Meanwhile in men's 69 kg weightlifting, Albanian lifter Daniel Godelli won both snatch and clean & jerk events by lifting 151 and 174 kg, respectively.
Godelli was chased in both events by Tunisian Karem Ben Hnia, who grabbed two silvers with 138 kg in snatch and 173 in clean & jerk.
Brikan Calja brought Albania its third and fourth medals in weightlifting by winning bronze in both lifts.
