MARDIN, Turkey
Four Turkish soldiers were martyred Monday in a bomb attack carried out by PKK terrorists in Turkey’s southeastern province of Mardin, the military said in a statement.
According to a statement on Turkish Armed Forces' website, the fatalities occurred when terrorists detonated a hand-made bomb they planted on the road during the ongoing anti-terror operation in Nusaybin district.
Five others were wounded in the blast in Nusaybin and were taken to hospital, added the statement.
The operation in the district also saw one policeman martyred earlier in the day in Dicle neighborhood.
Last week, security forces launched a counter-terrorism operation in Nusaybin on the Syrian border to clear the town of improvised explosive devices and barricades.
On Sunday, a police officer was killed by a PKK bomb attack in Nusaybin.
The PKK, which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and EU, resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July. Since then, more than 300 members of the security forces have been martyred and thousands of PKK terrorists killed.
