Five people have been detained Thursday in anti-terror operations in Turkey's eastern province of Igdir and the southeastern province of Siirt, local security sources said.
They were alleged to be members of the Marxist-Leninist terrorist organization, also known as the Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party/Front.
The local directorate of the anti-terror department simultaneously raided four different places in two provinces. The anti-terror team detained three people in Igdir, and two in Siirt for leaving packages which were made to look like bombs.
The suspected are being investigated at the provincial police offices.
The organization is amongst the prominent foreign terrorist groups in Turkey and is on the United States' 2011-2012 country report on terrorism.
The outlawed organization had been sentenced for a suicide bombing at the US embassy in Ankara in February last year as well as launching a rocket attack on the headquarters of the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party in the capital a few months later.
