Speaking at a press conference on energy sector in Turkey for the last 10 years, Yildiz said that Turkey's electricity generation increased to 229 billion kilowatt/hour and Turkey now is in the position of producing more electricity than it consumes. He said that the private sector produces 61 percent of the electricity power.
Yildiz said that they would like to increase the share of the private sector to 75 percent in energy production and added Turkey should make 5 billion USD worth energy investment every year. He said that the energy used in all fields was equal to the usage of 116 million tonnes of oil in 2011 and added that an energy structure that will be equal to the usage of 218 million tonnes of oil will be formed as of 2023. He also said that Turkey plans to provide 17-18 MW of energy via Turkish charcoal as of 2023.
Upon a question, he said international investment, including energy investments, in Turkey were not affected from the reports of credit rating firms.
He said that the privatization of BOTAS or TPAO is not on their agenda.
- Syria, Iran -
He said that Syria redemanded buying electricity from Turkey and applied for it. He said they will renew the contract and added that it was a humanitarian component rather than being a profitable one.
He said that they do not plan to decrease the amount of natural gas they buy from Iran because sanctions on Iran do not comprise current agreements.
