Istanbul Modern opens new exhibition
Istanbul Modern’s new collection invites art-lovers to examine “how artists position their work and themselves within the concept of time”.
The exhibition, which has run from August 7 and is called ‘Artists in Their Time’, consists of paintings, photographs and installations.
“It unites artists from very different periods, geographies and disciplines around common themes,” the museum.
The exhibition takes inspiration from the words by Turkey’s renowned 20th century writer Ahmet Hamid Tanpinar (1901-1962) who said: “I am neither within time nor completely outside of it.”
“Tanpinar’s views about time illuminate the process by which artists come to terms with the relationship of their work with the past, the present and the future,” added the statement.
The exhibition is curated by Levent Calikoglu and will gather 186 artworks from 115 artists.
