DIYARBAKIR, Turkey
At least one police officer was martyred and three PKK terrorists were killed during a clash in southeastern Turkey’s Diyarbakir province late Monday, police sources said Tuesday.
Ten other policemen were also injured in the exchange of gunfire in the province’s central Baglar district.
According to the sources, some terrorists blocked roads in Muradiye, Kaynartepe and Bes Nisan neighborhoods where they resorted to setting ablaze some cars.
The terrorists also attempted to dig some ditches and attacked police officers with long-barreled weapons. The ensuing clash resulted in the death of a policeman and three PKK terrorists.
The head of Baglar district’s administration issued a curfew in Kaynartepe neighborhood Tuesday.
The PKK – also listed as a terrorist organization by the U.S. and the EU – resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in late July 2015.
Since then, more than 290 members of the security forces have been martyred and thousands of PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
