ANKARA
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu spoke on Wednesday to his British and American counterparts, William Hague and John Kerry respectively, over the phone.
The leaders handled the latest developments in Syria as well the steps to be taken over the upcoming days, diplomatic sources said.
Last week's alleged chemical attack by Bashar Assad's regime in Syria was a crime against humanity, said the ministers while pointing out that the Syrian crisis was a clear threat to international peace and security.
Hague also informed the Turkish minister on the resolution which the UK drafted condemning the chemical weapons attack in Syria and authorizing the necessary measures to protect civilians in the country.
Davutoglu voiced Turkey's demand for a consensus on the matter and called on the international community for immediate steps to prevent deaths in Syria.
Meanwhile, Britain issued a statement saying, "It is time the United Nations Security Council shoulders its responsibility on Syria, which for the last two and a half years it has failed to do."
Pointing out the difficulty of reaching a consensus on the UK's resolution over Syria given the stances of Russia and China, it was stated, "If there isn't agreement at the United Nations, then we still have a responsibility; we and other nations still have a responsibility."
No consensus in UN on Britain's resolution over Syria
The five permanent members of UN Security Council could not agree on the resolution that Britain drafted condemning the chemical weapons attack in Syria and authorizing necessary measures to protect the civilians in the country.
Representatives of U.S., Russia, France, UK, and China handled Syria issue in an unofficial meeting Wednesday but could not reach a consensus as Russia opposed the resolution, sources said.
If Britain submits the resolution to UN Security Council for approval, Russia and China are expected to veto it.
British Prime Minister David Cameron previously announced that Britain drafted a UN Security Council resolution condemning the chemical weapons attack in Syria and authorizing necessary measures to protect the civilians in the country.
