ANKARA
European Union's foreign policy chief has condemned the Syrian mortar strike killing 5 people in Turkey's south-east.
Catherine Ashton, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs & Security Policy, held a phone conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and condemned yesterday's Syrian mortar attack on south-eastern Akcakale town, diplomatic sources told AA on Thursday.
Extending her condolences to Davutoglu, Ashton also expressed hope that the ongoing bloodshed in Syria would stop.
During the phone talk, Minister Davutoglu informed Ashton on details of the incident, sources added.
Artillery shells fired by the Syrian army hit a neighborhood in Akcakale town of south-eastern province of Sanliurfa on Wednesday. 5 Turkish citizens were killed and 9 others were wounded in the attack.
