ANKARA
Five members of the Kurdistan Worker's Party (PKK) have been killed in eastern province of Hakkari, according to a statement issued by the Turkish General Staff on Friday.
The statement said the security forces clashed with the PKK militants, who, it said, planted hand-made explosive on a road located in Yuksekova district in Hakkari on Thursday.
In a separate incident Thursday, a group of militants set ablaze a total of 28 vehicles belonging to a private road construction company in southeastern province of Sirnak's Cizre district, according to the General Staff.
In addition, seven suspected PKK members surrendered to Mardin Provincial Gendarme Command without weapons and equipment on Thursday.
Operations against the PKK -- considered a terror group by Turkey, the EU and U.S. -- came after it renewed attacks on Turkish security forces following the July 20 Suruc bombing.
More than 50 police and soldiers have been martyred in attacks attributed to the PKK while Turkish operations, inside and outside the country, have killed more than 770 alleged PKK members.
