BERLIN
Three separate attacks on a mosque in Cologne just before the visit of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Berlin will not negatively impact Turkish-German relations, says the head of one of the largest Islamic organisations in Germany in Berlin on Monday.
Izzet Er, who heads the Turkish-Islamic Union for Religious Affairs (DITIB), talked to Anadolu Agency during Prime Minister Erdogan's meeting with Turkish-European NGO's in Berlin.
"These kind of incidents will not prevent Turkish and German people from living together in peace. Turkish society is a part of German society. As German Chancellor said Islam is a part of German society. " he added.
Izzet Er said "The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of protecting family unity and foster families. This is important for unfortunate kids that have no parents".
Greens Party interior policy spokesman Volker Beck urged all democrats to stand against the 'provocative attack on Islam'.
The Turkish-Islamic Union for Religious Affairs (DITIB), a branch of the Presidency of Religious Affairs in Ankara, was founded in 1984.
