Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has said that Turkey would retaliate again if its border with Syria was violated again and if they felt that Turkey's national security was in danger.
After holding a meeting with his German counterpart Guido Westerwelle in Istanbul, Davutoglu said that Turkey has been taking every kind of measures on its borders.
Davutoglu said that NATO highlighted in a meeting that Turkey-Syria border was the border of NATO and it was a clear support by NATO.
"Within this scope, I would like to thank Germany for its assistance," he said.
Westerwelle said that he paid this visit to Turkey to show that Germany was beside Turkey, and it appreciated Turkey for its stance in regard to incidents along its border with Syria.
German government fully supported Turkey, he said.
Turkish fm holds bilateral talks
Davutoglu held meetings with Joint UN and Arab League's special envoy on Syria Lakhdar Brahimi, German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle, Libya's National Forces Alliance leader Mahmoud Jibril, British Minister for Europe David Lidington as well as Shadow Foreign Secretary Douglas Alexander in Istanbul.
Incidents that took place on Turkey-Syria border, the latest developments in Syria and the Syrian plane that was stopped by Turkey were discussed in the meeting between Davutoglu and Westerwelle.
Officials quoted Westerwelle as saying in the meeting that he was paying a visit to Turkey to show that Germany was supporting Turkey in its stance on Syria.
Westerwelle reiterated his condolences to Davutoglu over a Syrian artillery attack on Turkish town of Akcakale on October 3 that killed two women and three children.
Westerwelle said that Turkey acted in common sense in regard to the incident, stating that they were eager to assist Syrian people who were staying in Turkey.
Davutoglu and Brahimi also exchanged views on the situation at the Turkey-Syria border, developments in Syria and the plane stopped by Turkey.
Meanwhile, Davutoglu, Lidington and Alexander discussed Turkish-British relations and Turkish-EU relations in their meeting.
Davutoglu says a new UN system, a new decision making process needed
Davutoglu has said that a new UN system, a new decision making process was needed.
Delivering a speech at the Istanbul World Forum, Davutoglu said that there was need for a new global cultural order.
"There is a need for a new unbiased approach that is not geographically focused," he said.
Davutoglu said, "Unless world's richest and poorest countries sit around a table, it is difficult to ensure justice in international economic system."
Arab Spring was not only a movement asking for political rights, but also an uprising against economic inequality and corruption, he said.
"Turkey has got on the right side of history during the Arab Spring,” the foreign minister said.
In regard to the incident on the Turkey-Syria border, Davutoglu said that if a country attacked on Turkey and killed civilians as it happened in Akcakale, then Turkey would retaliate.
