ANKARA
Prosecutors are nearing to the completion of their investigation on the last military coup which occured in Turkey 16 years ago.
Anadolu Agency learned the prosecutor's case will soon be completed and presented to an Ankara court.
Investigation was launched after a lawyer's application in Ankara in April 2011.
Two prosecutors from Ankara took the application and started investigation and ordered first detentions exactly a year later. Retired four star general Cevik Bir was the leading suspect then and his detention was extended as he is still in jail waiting for the trials to start.
A total of 73 people, in addition to Cevik Bir, retired generals Cetin Dogan and Teoman Koman were detained as part of the ongoing investigation.
On Wednesday, former Commander of Turkish Land Forces Retired General Erdal Ceylanoglu, former Commander of Turkish War Academies Retired General Aslan Guner, and retired General Yucel Ozsir were brought to the Ankara Court House as part of the "Post-Modern Coup".
In January, former Chief of Turkish General Staff Gen. Ismail Hakki Karadayi was released upon giving a testimony under the "Post-Modern Coup" investigation. Karadayi was released on condition of judicial control.
The "Post-Modern Coup" refers to a military intervention that caused then Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan led government to collapse. The process was named for the February 28, 1997 meeting of the National Security Council (MGK). At that meeting the coalition government was pressured to implement some measures against "anti-secular" formations within the state and society.
Erbakan died two years ago. His coalition partner, centre-right DYP leader Tansu Ciller is a witness in the case.
