A suspected member of a ultra-left terrorist organization who was shot while reportedly attacking an Istanbul police station has died in hospital, police said Sunday.
According to Turkish police, an officer shot 20-year-old Yilmaz Ozturk, who the authorities said was a suspected member of the Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C).
Police say Ozturk was part of a group which threw three explosive devices into the courtyard of Fatih Sultan Police Station in Istanbul’s Sariyer district.
Ozturk was taken to Okmeydani Training and Research Hospital but later died there.
The security forces added that the explosives damaged the police building and that they are searching for the rest of the group.
The terrorist organization DHKP-C has been responsible for a string of deadly attacks in major cities including Istanbul and the capital, Ankara.
