ISTANBUL
Istanbul is to host a high-profile travelling photo exhibition documenting world events which made headlines this year, including the Ukrainian conflict and air strikes in Syria's Kobani.
The World Press Photo 15 exhibition will include 145 prize-winning images chosen from among nearly 100,000 pictures taken by more than 5,000 photographers from 131 countries.
There is a hidden story behind each photo and the opening ceremony of the Istanbul exhibition will feature Sergei Ilnitsky, a Russian photojournalist living in Moscow working for the European Pressphoto Agency, alongside a Turkish photojournalist from Agence France-Presse, Bulent Kilic.
Ilnitsky is the first-prize singles winner in the General News category of the 2015 contest for his photos of Donetsk – a city under heavy attack during fighting between Ukrainian government troops and pro-Russia separatists.
Kilic is the third-prize singles winner in the Spot News category with his photo showing destruction in the Syrian town of Kobani, after a U.S.-led airstrike against Daesh forces.
The exhibition will be held between August 12 and September 2 at the Forum Istanbul Shopping Center in Istanbul.
