ANKARA
Confederation of Public Laborers' Unions (KESK) went on a two-day general strike in public institutions on Tuesday as of 12:00 to protest Taksim Gezi Park incidents.
KESK issued a written statement on Monday claiming that the incidents to repress the protests that began eight days ago have reached to an extent that jeopardizes people's lives.
The decision on going on a general strike, KESK noted, serves as a protest to the government's attitude of endangering the people's safety of life.
"As of June 4 Tuesday, we will go to work in black clothes and with black ribbons on our collars. We will hold a strike, making a statement to the press to condemn the violence of those disregarding the freedom of expression and right to hold demonstration. Our strike will begin on June 4 at 12:00, which we previously announced as June 5. We will collectively take to the streets as part of our demand for 'Humane Life, Guaranteed Labor and Secure Life, A Democratic Turkey'," said KESK's statement.
Starting their strike in Turkish capital Ankara, Union of Bureau Laborers' (BES), a sub union of KESK, gathered before the buildings of Ankara Directorate General of Taxation, and Social Security Administration at Kizilay Square.
