ANKARA
Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) mayoral candidates for three biggest cities of Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir were announced, being Mustafa Sarigul, Mansur Yavas and Aziz Kocaoglu respectively.
Sarigul, expelled from the party in 2005, first needed to rejoin the CHP this year to run on behalf of it. His name has long been mentioned in connection with CHP leadership by political experts.
Yavas is a former Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) member and was the mayor of Ankara's Beypazari district between 1999 and 2009. He was third-rated at the latest mayoral elections in Ankara in 2009, taking 27 % of the votes. His joining to the party took heavy criticism from social-democrat CHP deputies.
Kocaoglu, an old CHP member and Izmir mayor since 2004, once again was announced as Izmir candidate this year.
