ISTANBUL (AA) - Leigh Turner, Britain's consul general in Istanbul, said Thursday there was no similarity between Istanbul Gezi Park protests and London G8 demonstrations other than people "expressing their democratic rights."
"There was no similarity between Istanbul Gezi Park and London G8 protests other than people expressing their democratic rights. However, one thing is really important and that is Britain has a positive perspective of Turkey and the Turkish economy," Turner told reporters following a penning ceremony of a cooperation agreement between Turkey's Independent Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association (MUSIAD) and United Kingdom Trade and Investment (UKTI).
"We would like to see the relations between Turkey and Britain expand in scope and increase. Other than that, I don't encounter any problems. The most important thing is all democratic states should support freedoms and welcome peaceful protests."
