In a statement Ihsanoglu said that a leader should make sacrifices in order to preserve the interests of the country.
Ihsanoglu stressed that Syria was getting into a civil war, and said that the situation in that country was threatening the whole region.

Ihsanoglu also called on Islamic world to be in unity and integrity.
Releasing a message, Ihsanoglu congratulated Holy Month of Ramadan of Islamic world, and he said, "with the advent of this blessed month comes a fundamental occasion to underscore Islam's lofty values and its human principles, and to emphasize the meanings of solidarity among Muslims."
"It is unfortunate that the month of tolerance and forgiveness comes at a time when parts of our Islamic world are witnessing wars, disorders and humanitarian crises such as the events taking place in Syria," said Ihsanoglu, and called on "each and everyone to safeguard the sanctity of this month which requires us to preserve the lives of our fellow Muslims."
"While praying Allah that peace and security may prevail in our countries, I appeal to all belligerent parties in the Islamic world to respect the sanctity of this blessed Month and to end all forms of enmity and bloodshed," he said.
Ihsanoglu added, "I also take this opportunity to draw attention to the ordeal of our brothers from the Rohingya minority in Myanmar and to shed light on the continued large-scale brutal aggressions they are subjected to. I invite all Muslims to contribute to the alleviation of the suffering of these oppressed people, and I appeal to neighboring countries to have mercy on the displaced from among the Rohingya minority who seek refuge therein."
