BETHLEHEM
Muhammed Stayh, central committee member of the Palestinian National Salvation Front resigned from his position on November 5.
As one of the 2 people who represented Palestine in the peace talks with Israel, Stayh announced the reason for his resignation at a press conference in Bethlehem, Palestine on Friday. During his speech, Stayh strongly criticized Israel’s attitude in the peace talks over the last 3 months.
During his speech, Stayh said that he “realized” Israel is not serious about the peace talks with Palestine, adding that he resigned due to Israel’s continuation of Jewish settlement constructions.
“Since the peace talks started, Israel demolished homes of 206 Palestinians and arrested over 500 Palestinian citizens,” said Stayh adding “They also started the construction of 3 thousand new settlements.”
Stayh said that if the 9-month period of peace talks were fulfilled, Israel would have constructed 40,000 new settlements on Palestinian territory by the end of this period.
Underlining Israel’s moderate approach towards a unified government constitution with Hamas as the only positive aspect of the peace talks, Stayh said “If Hamas is eager, a new government can be constituted right away.”
