At least three Turkish soldiers were martyred in ongoing operations against the terrorist PKK organization in southeastern Turkey, the military said Sunday.
The Turkish General Staff said in a statement that one soldier, who was heavily injured in an armed attack by the members of the separatist terrorist organization in the town of Idil in Sirnak province, died in hospital.
In another incident, three soldiers were wounded, two of them critically, in an attack by PKK members in Sur district of Turkey’s southeastern province of Diyarbakir. The two soldiers died at hospital while the remaining soldier’s treatment is ongoing.
The southeast has been the scene of a significant military operation since December.
The PKK -- designated a terrorist organization also by the U.S. and the EU -- renewed its armed campaign against the Turkish state in late July 2015.
Since then more than 270 members of the security forces have been martyred and thousands of PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
