ANKARA
The candidate of the Communist Party of Turkey has been elected mayor of the eastern province of Tunceli on Sunday.
Fatih Mehmet Macoglu bagged 5,737 votes, while Opposition Peoples' Democratic Party's (HDP) candidate Nursat Yesil got 5,169 votes, according to unofficial results.
Earlier, millions of Turkish voters cast their votes in the local elections to choose Turkey’s mayors, city council members, mukhtars (neighborhood officials), and members of elder councils for the next five years.
