ANKARA
YALOVA / AGRI, Turkey (AA) - Vefa Salman, Republican People's Party (CHP), the main opposition candidate in the western Yalova province and the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) candidate Sirri Sakik came first in the re-run local elections on Sunday, according to the latest distribution of votes.
The local elections in Turkey's 13 localities were held after the Supreme Election Board declared the results void in the March 30 local elections, as well as one locality, Gomu, in which the election body decided to hold a by-election. Leading in Yalova was CHP taking 47.9 percent of the votes, while BDP took 51.3 percent in the Agri province.
The Justice and Development (AK) Party with 47.5 percent and 45 percent of votes in Yalova and Agri respectively, ranked second.

AK Party Deputy Chairman Sentop told the Anadolu Agency (AA) that the AK Party increased its votes by 4.31 per cent compared with the March 30 election results.
"AK Party won the elections in five centers, MHP in three, BDP in two and Felicity Party (SP) in one election center. AK Party won the elections in 4 of the 13 localities except Gomu where a local re-election was not held. A change came in the Aydintepe district where MHP won the retake from the AK Party, but in the Aydin Buharkent district which was won by MHP has now been taken by the AK Party," Sentop said.
