TEKIRDAG, Turkey
Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke at a local election rally in northwestern city of Tekirdag today as a crucial parliamentary session gathered to hear a summary of charges against four former ministers allegedly linked to anti-graft operations carried out on December 17.
The session was called by the speaker of parliament at the request of opposition parties.
Touching upon recently released voice recordings allegedly belonging to him and some high-profile state officials, Erdogan told Tekirdag voters not to be misled and added that a "parallel state" led by US-based Islamic scholar Fethullah Gulen had created a montage of fabricated voice recordings from wiretapped phone calls.
"Wiretapping a prime minister, president or top state officials is considered spying on state secrets. Those who involved in these wiretappings will be tried for spying," said Erdogan.
PM Erdogan claimed that Turkish people were aware of the plot against the government, democracy and ballot boxes. "People express their will against these plots both at the squares on rallies and will show it in the ballot boxes," added Erdogan.
