ANKARA
Turkish border patrol police teams responded Tuesday to the Islamic State of Iraq’s and the Levant (ISIL) opening of fire from the Syrian border by sending heavy weapons and tanks, officials said.
ISIL fighters, who typically clash with other factions in the Syrian opposition, opened fire at a Turkish border security post at 4:30 p.m. local time on Tuesday, military sources say.
A Turkish border patrol police station targeted an ISIL convoy in the region with heavy machine guns and tanks in retaliation for an attack Tuesday by the same group.
The Turkish forces destroyed a utility vehicle, a truck and a bus that belonged to the organization, according to Turkish security sources.
No casualties were reported on the Turkish side of the border.
