RIYADH, Saudi Arabia
The head of Turkey’s Religious Affairs Directorate paid a visit to Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyadh between Jan. 2 and Jan. 4.
Mehmet Gormez met with Abdul Aziz Al Sheikh, the grand mufti of Saudi Arabia, as well as members of the country’s Islamic religious law committee.
“The dignity and honor of Muslims have been destroyed by their own hands [in a way that has] never happened in history,” Gormez said.
He said that terrorist organizations, using flags that bear Prophet Muhammad’s name, have damaged Islam more than ever before, in reference to Daesh.
Gormez also said that millions of people lost their lives or had to flee their homes because of unrest in their home countries.
