ANKARA
Turkey's European Union Minister and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis has said support among Turkish people for the country's EU reforms process remained intact despite what he described as "the ambivalent attitude" of the Union.
"Our people's support is as strong as before. It is true that Turks are angry with the EU's ambivalence but there is no drop in popular support for the reforms process. The EU has lost its credibility but it is highly important for us to continue with our determination within our own schedule," Bagis told a meeting on Thursday.
Bagis said Ireland was set to assume the rotating helm at the EU presidency on January 1, which he said promised better for Turkey's accession negotiations, adding that the Irish presidency was determined to revive EU enlargement drive and open new policy chapters in Ankara's membership talks.
