Minister Yildiz spoke at a press conference after the meeting of Enejisa transferring its shares to the energy and natural gas company E.ON on Tuesday in Istanbul.
Replying to a question on U.S. sanctions against Iran and Turkey's attitude towards the issue, he said he thought that U.S. sanctions especially on natural gas would not cover Turkey.
He stated that he believed that the U.S. would not consider such a decision and said, "Firstly, Turkey has to think about its people, consider the needs of energy, natural gas and crude oil in order to meet its needs. Iran is our second largest supplier." He said he believed that the U.S. would not go ahead with such an approach.
Yildiz replied upon a question about the additional natural gas demand from Russia and said that they held meetings and negotiations with the Russian delegation through out on Sunday and on Monday and said, "In case Turkey demands, Russia was friendly over supplying Turkey with additional natural gas."
Furthermore, upon a question about buying crude oil from Russia, Yildiz said, "We used to buy crude oil from 11 countries and natural gas from 5 countries. We would like to rise their numbers and routes. Our energy documents tell us that. We are not buying new crude oil from Russia in order to have more supplies. However, we may increase the amount that we take from them. If we need it, we may buy the crude petroleum from Russia."
