AMASYA
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Tuesday that any power transition that would cause Syrian people to feel safe and in peace would be an acceptable step.
Davutoglu attended a meeting in the northern province of Amasya.
When he was reminded of a statement by the Syrian National Council's (SNC) new leader Abdulbaset Sieda that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad should hand over the power to his vice president, Davutoglu said that Assad lost his credibility in the country due to the stance that he has assumed for nearly one and a half years. Such a power transition could launch a positive process there, he said.
Answering a question, Davutoglu said that Syrian people have also been suffering from economic problems.
When he was reminded of some allegations that Iraqi President Jalal Talabani tried to persuade terrorist organization PKK to announce truce, Davutoglu said that they expected all administrators in the north of Iraq to take concrete steps on ending activities of terrorist organization PKK.
Davutoglu said if Talabani took such steps, Turkey would welcome it, stating that these steps must be concrete to end presence of PKK in the north of Iraq.
