ANKARA
Turkish Foreign Ministry said on Saturday that the deal reached between Russia and the US on the disposal of chemical weapons currently held by Syrian regime was received as a positive step but it was cautious about any exploitation of the deal by the regime.
A written statement released by the ministry expressed that the deal in question should not turn into a process that would buy time for the regime to initiate new massacres against its people, adding that the revealed timescale was long and suitable for exploitation by Syrian regime. It further said that the sanctions that would be introduced in case the pledges of the regime were not fulfilled fully and in time and the process failed must be determined clearly in the beginning.
Turkish Foreign Ministry statement also said that the deal should be presided over by the UN Security Council.
