A report by British newspaper the Guardian accuses the National Security Agency (NSA) in the US of monitoring world leaders' phone calls. Before this allegation, German Prime Minister Angela Merkel called US President Barack Obama on Wednesday to inquiry about whether the NSA monitored her phone calls as well.
Phone tapping scandals have turned into a confidence crisis between the US and Europe.
Turkish President Gul also commented on Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari's visit to Turkey.
Expressing his pleasure over Zebari's visit, Gul stressed a new era without conflicting interests had begun in their relations as Ankara has supported Iraq's territorial integrity.
Turkish President Gul received the visiting Iraqi minister Thursday evening. Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu met with his Iraqi counterpart on Friday while Zebari is set to visit Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
