ANKARA
Turkish President Abdullah Gul hosted a reception in the Turkish capital Ankara to mark the 90th anniversary of the foundation of the Republic of Turkey on Tuesday.
Regarding the issue of women wearing headscarf in Parliament, Gul said "To my knowledge, Turkish Parliament Speaker says, women can wear headscarf in the Parliament. Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) has contributed to change the old understanding about headscarf. This issue used to be a taboo."
It is pleasing for Turkey to adopt a more western secularism like in the US and the UK, Gul said.
On Turkey's solution process, Gul said Turkey's solution process is not a one-night matter and it needs to be appreciated.
