Turkish dailies covered on Thursday the ongoing standing still protests, US Ambassador to Turkey Francis Ricciardone's visit to Justice and Development (AK) Party's headquarters, EU Affairs Minister Egemen Bagis' challenge against veto by Holland, Germany and Austria to the opening of new chapter, the kick-off of 17th Mediterranean Games in Mersin and oil deal between Turkey and the regional administration in northern Iraq.
Daily MILLIYET headlined " 'Gezi' visit from US ambassador", and quoted Francis Ricciardone as saying "We renewed our confidence in terms of freedom of expression and gathering." It also titled "They stood against the standing men", and published that a group of 8 people protested the standing men in Taksim Square by standing against them. The two groups did not talk to each other, said daily MILLIYET.
Daily HURRIYET covered standing still protests and titled " The world greeted standing still protesters" saying standing still protests which spread across Turkey in three days were widely covered throughout the world. The daily reported Turkish Minister for European Union Affairs Egemen Bagis's criticism of several EU countries for their stance in Taksim Gezi park protests and the opening of new chapters in Turkey's EU membership. The daily quoted Bagis as saying "Turkey does not need EU but the EU does." Daily HURRIYET also covered the 17th Mediterranean Games in Mersin and titled "Show begins in the Mediterranean" saying the 17th Mediterranean Games hosted by Turkey will be inaugurated by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and President of the International Olympic Committee Jacques Rogge.
Daily HABER TURK headlined " Doomsday attack prevented just in time" citing Turkish Transport Minister Binali Yildirim "We had cyber attacks during Taksim Gezi Park protests. The whole country would have had power cuts. We overcame this."
Daily VATAN covered veto by Germany, Holland and Austria of the opening of new chapters in Turkey's EU membership and headlined " I dare you to find 27 votes" quoting Bagis as saying " Turkey's EU accession talks have begun unanimously. There are two options to stop this process. Turkey will either withdraw officially or they will terminate this process unanimously. I dare you to find 27 votes and then we can talk."
The daily also covered Ricciardone's visit to AK Party's headquarters titled "Which message was given to the US? "
Daily YENI SAFAK covered the oil deal between Turkey and and the regional administration in northern Iraq and titled "Six oil regions to TPAO" saying a concrete step has been taken for oil deal which has been continuing forbebety more than a year between the two countries and Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) will seek oil in six oil wells in northern Iraq.
