Turkish dailies on Tuesday covered the death of 8 coal miners who died in an explosion which was caused by methane gas leakage in Turkey's northwestern province of Zonguldak on Monday, detailed ruling on coup plot case to overthrow the government back in 2003, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's statements during his trip to Gabon and the heavy snowfall which affected the daily life in Istanbul and most parts of Turkey. All Turkish dailies covered the death of eight coal miners. Dailies stated that miners died when a sudden release of methane gas affected them in Kozlu coal mine in Turkey's northwestern province of Zonguldak.
Daily ZAMAN headlined, "The original documents of Balyoz (Sledgehammer - coup plot) came from Turkish General Staff" and stated that the Turkish court was given a detailed explanation on its ruling to convict 330 military officers last September after a trial in which they were accused of a plot to overthrow the government back in 2003. The Istanbul court handed the 1,435-page detailed ruling which said evidence showed that all of convicts had each been assigned to certain tasks in the coup plot and that they were aware of the conspiracy and its dimensions.
Daily YENI SAFAK quoted Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's "Not diamonds, but a friendship" statement from his trip to Gabon and headlined it. The daily said that Turkish PM Erdogan headed to Gabon as his first trip abroad in 2013. He sent peace and friendship theme messages, the daily said. "We are not the ones who see diamonds and gold when looking at Africa. We only see friendship and fellowship," the daily quoted Erdogan as saying.
Lastly, Turkish dailies covered the heavy snowfall stories from all over Turkey but mainly from Istanbul. On Monday Istanbul was warned over heavy snowfall. Dailies said that despite some delays and cancellations in flights, Istanbul handled the snowfall all right. Turkey's eastern cities were buried under snow. Cold weather and intense snow disturbed the daily life in Erzurum, Erzincan, Ardahan, Kars, Agri, Mus, Bingol, Gumushane and Bayburt, daily MILLIYET published.
