BEIJING
More than 20 workers were trapped Friday when an under construction tunnel collapsed in China’s eastern Fujian Province.
State news agency Xinhua reported rescuers had been informed that 21 people were working at the site when a 30-meter section of an expressway tunnel in Longyan City gave way.
The tunnel, which was being expanded for the route connecting the area to the capital of southwestern Sichuan Province, has been blocked by around 5,000 cubic meters of debris.
No casualties have been reported as a search is ongoing.
In July, 15 workers were trapped when a tunnel on a key railway route collapsed in southwestern Yunnan province. Four days later, 14 of them were rescued.
