KARACHI, Pakistan
At least 34 suspected Taliban militants were killed and several injured in Pakistan army air strikes on Wednesday, the army confirmed.
A senior military official said, on condition of anonymity, that the strikes targeted hideouts belonging to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan militant network and the allied Lashkar-e-Islam group in the northwestern Khyber Agency.
The official said six hideouts and a cache of weapons and ammunition were destroyed.
The Pakistan army began its operations in the Khyber Agency in October 2014, following a June operation to push militants from the adjoining North Waziristan tribal area.
The army have claimed to have killed more than 2,300 militants since June 2014 but figures cannot be verified as the military restrict access to operation-hit regions.
The operations have displaced more than 1.5 million people.
