Attacks on the Afghanistan-bordering Akakhel area, near the Tirah valley stronghold of the Taliban-affiliated Lashkar-e-Islam, killed five militants, a senior military official said on condition of anonymity. He added that another militant and a pro-government fighter died in a separate clash in the Tirah valley.
The attacks were part of an extended army operation to eradicate militancy in Pakistan's northwestern tribal areas. The army has claimed to have killed more than 150 militants in the last month.
