BEIJING
A knife attack at a hospital in a northeastern Chinese resort town has left seven people – including six nurses – dead, local media reported Thursday.
According to state news agency Xinhua, a staff member was also killed and another nurse wounded Wednesday when a knife-wielding man assailed them in the coastal town of Beidaihe in Hebei province.
Security officials said a 27-year-old suspect surnamed Li was detained in connection with the assault at the hospital in a China Liberation Army area. No further details have been released regarding the incident.
Located 300 kilometers northeast of capital Beijing, Beidaihe is known as an area frequented by top officials in the Chinese Communist Party for vacations and official meetings.
Authorities said they have begun a comprehensive investigation into the case.
