KABUL, Afghanistan
Afghan Air Force helicopters killed three suspected Taliban militants and injured 11 others in an airstrike in northwestern Faryab province Friday, an Afghan official said.
The dead included three alleged Taliban shadow governors and an Uzbek commander, said acting governor for Faryab province, Sattar Bariz.
The attack occurred at 9.30 a.m., local time in Almar district’s Qarayee village, located some 22 kilometers from the provincial capital of Maimanah.
Almar and four other districts of the province have recently seen heavy fighting that left over 100 people dead and thousands of families displaced.
On July 22, at least 21 people were killed in a suicide attack at a crowded market in Almar.
