TIRANA (AA) - Albanian Prime Minister and the leader of Democratic Party (DP) Sali Berisha resigned from his position in the party.
Berisha stressed that the June 23 elections were one of the finest elections in his career, and thanked citizens who supported the "work, welfare and integration" coalition under the leadership of DP.
"I don't want to comment on the results of the election. I have done my duty with responsibility in my long political career. I respect the decision of people. I am resign from all my duties in DP," said Berisha.
Socialists opposition were ahead in Albanian elections according to unofficial results.
Socialist Party Leader Edi Rama had claimed victory in Albanian general elections held on Sunday by securing 84 seats in the 140-member national assembly ahead of PM Berisha's party which secured 56 seats.
