CAIRO (AA) – An Egyptian investigation team probing the failed attempt on interim Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim's life has identified Arab and foreign suspects believed to be involved in the attack, a security source said Sunday.
The team "identified the names of a group of terrorist elements from Arab and foreign countries suspected to be involved in the attack," the source, who asked not to be named, told Anadolu Agency.
Coordination is underway among security agencies to launch raids on places where these suspects are believed to be hiding, the source added.
On Thursday, Ibrahim narrowly escaped death when his motorcade was bombed as he left his home in the east of Cairo neighborhood of Nasr City.
One conscript was killed and more than 20 people were injured in the attack, including ten of the minister's guards.
No individuals or groups have claimed responsibility for the operation.
Ibrahim, for his part, did not rule out the possible involvement of "foreign" parties in the assassination bid – in coordination, he said, with domestic groups – with the aim of "triggering a state of terrorism."
