ISTANBUL
Leader of the Syrian Democratic Turkmen Movement, Abdulkerim Aga, on Sunday said that the Assad regime killed around 300 Turkmens in Syria.
In an exclusive interview with the Anadolu Agency (AA), Aga said that the Turkmens acted in cooperation with the Syrian opposition and, as such, paid a high price.
"The Assad regime massacres people, including children. The Turkmen people have made great contributions to the revolution in Syria. Around 300 Turkmens have been killed by Assad forces," Aga stressed.
Opposition groups at first did not pay much attention to the Turkmens. Yet they have noticed that the Turkmens could not be ignored. All opposition groups now support us. We are at where we should be, Aga noted.
Turkmens are a part of Syria and they act along with the Syrian people, Aga underlined.
We call on all sides to join the opposition without arms so as to facilitate a transition in Syria to democracy, Aga stated.
We are doing what we can in response to the demands of our people in the streets. We would like to continue working as an opposition under the umbrella of the Syrian National Council. We have presented the names of five of our colleagues to them, Aga indicated.
We will join all activities of the Syrian opposition. We will attend the Cairo Congress to be held under the auspices of the Arab League on June 22 and 23, Aga also said.
