ALGIERS
One survivor has been found in the wreckage of a military plane that crashed in eastern Algeria on Tuesday, a military source said.
"One survivor was found and 52 confirmed dead," the source was quoted as saying by Algeria's official news agency.
According to the source, a total of 77 people had been aboard the plane when it fell to earth in the Oum El Bouaghi province.
A military source had earlier said that 103 people aboard the plane had been killed in the crash.
The Algerian Defense Ministry blamed the crash on "bad weather."
In a statement, the ministry said the incident "may have been caused by bad weather conditions and falling snow."
The Defense Ministry added that a fact-finding commission had been dispatched to the scene to determine the cause of the crash.
The ministry, however, provided no details as to the number of victims.
