FAR NORTH, Cameroon
Boko Haram militants killed eight villagers on Thursday morning in Cameroon’s Far North region near the Nigerian border, Colonel Issa Bouba, deputy commander of Cameroon's army, told Anadolu Agency.
“The attackers came by surprise. They burned two public buildings before the arrival of Cameroon security forces,” Bouba said, adding that a Cameroonian soldier was injured.
Since July, Cameroon’s Far North region has seen numerous Boko Haram attacks that have left scores dead.
An 8,700-strong regional force – including contingents from Nigeria, Cameroon, Benin, Niger and Chad – was recently formed with the express purpose of eradicating the notorious militant group.
