Beijing would increase its contributions to peace and security in Africa, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said during his official trip to the continent, Xinhua news agency reports.
Wang paid a visit to Djibouti on Wednesday as part of a five-day tour.
China, a permanent member of UN Security Council, had been conducting key efforts to provide peace and stability in Africa, the foreign minister said.
Chinese warships are patrolling to provide security off the Bay of Aden and Somalia in keeping with a United Nations (UN) resolution, and sixteen Chinese navy vessels escort nearly 5,300 foreign civil ships sailing in the area, Wang said.
The minister mentioned the project to establish a "China-Africa Security and Cooperation Partnership,” saying that China would strengthen its collaboration in peace and security with countries in the region, including Djibouti.
Wang began his bilateral talks in Ethiopia on Tuesday. The ministry says the week-long tour aims to deepen state-to-state friendship, mutual trust and cooperation.
He will also visit Ghana and Senegal.
